From coral reefs to down below
The ocean covers more than 70% of the Earth's surface and is home to an estimated 700,000 to one million species. Scientists believe we have explored less than 20% of the ocean floor, meaning countless species remain undiscovered.
Coral reefs occupy less than 1% of the ocean floor yet support roughly 25% of all marine species. Threats such as rising ocean temperatures and acidification make their protection one of the most urgent environmental challenges of our time.
